We report on the astounding case of eight rare bas relief panels created by Robert Juniper in the 1960s for the Town of Mosman Park Council Chambers simply thrown away with builders' rubble in the 1990s, but rescued and now restored by the artist. A short film documenting the restoration is in the process of being produced and will be available for residents and groups who wish to view the works together with the film. It is the positive culmination of a saga which first began in the early 1990s.
In London, The Wallace Collection has provided viewing joy to countless people since opening in 1900. We provide an insight into the history of the Collection which spans five generations of collectors from one family. The Collection is an extraordinary representation of the passion of one family who collected everything from the smallest silver spoons to full sets of armour for horse and rider, as well as works by artists such as Rembrandt, Rubens and Frans Hals.
Our two book reviews are books published by our own local Fremantle Press. Abstract Earth: a view from above features the amazing aerial photography of Richard Woldendorp, and Fertile Soil: Fifty Years of the City of Fremantle Art Collection offers an insight into a collection which is without an official home and largely kept in storage. The associated exhibition at Fremantle Arts Centre marking the fiftieth year of the collection is a rare opportunity to view highlights of the collection.
