In this issue we feature Transient States: Western Australian Photography at Lawrence Wilson Art Gallery where eleven photographers were invited to respond to the urban landscape. From the colourful and eccentric to the banal and mundane,
and ironic to ridiculous, participating photographers hold a mirror to Perth in works from the 1980s to the present. Viewers will find the earlier works nostalgic, and may even find themselves in some of the images.

We report on the opening of the massive Junction Art Centre in Midland, albeit amongst workmen busily transforming the building to its former glory. The Centre has the potential to be a cultural draw to the area with spaces for galleries, residencies, performing arts companies and an auditorium.

We highlight the Printmakers Association of WA and discover generous patrons who ensure the Association continues to thrive despite suffering the critical loss of a permanent home.

We reflect on the reach of the Castaways Sculpture Awards on Rockingham Foreshore as a pilar in the cultural genesis of the region. The Awards, growing from year to year, form an important backdrop to the City of Rockingham's regional cultural leadership aims, and through a free Forum this year extended a welcome invitation to those attending to explore and extend their practice. With a new performing and contemporary art centre currently under a feasibility study the City is set to play a pivotal role regionally in the arts.

Many artists may have considered illustrating children's books, but have not known where to start. We reveal the mystery of the process through Fremantle Press, including interviews from two published artists, one emerging and one established, to explore the process from their point of view.
