Happy 2009, and wishing you a fabulous year ahead.

Kingfisher Gallery begins the year with an eclectic exhibition of glass art from around Australia. The exhibition features the work of Nick Mount, a significant glass artist with decades of experience who began his career in Victoria's Gippsland region in the 1970s, during a time recognised as the birth of studio glass in Australia. The Gallery also has copies of the 2002 book Nick Mount: Incandescence by Margot Osborne which charts his developments and influences, but also records how studio glass began in Australia.

The unique collection exchange show You show us yours, we'll show you ours concurrently at the Holmes á Court Gallery and the Edith Cowan University Gallery at Joondalup Campus is a great opportunity to view exceptional Australian and Western Australian art. Curators Sharon Tassicker from the Holmes á Court Gallery and Connie Petrillo from ECU have matched artist to artist in the two collections with some surprising and interesting results. Look out for the soon-to-be released book on the Edith Cowan University Collection available online and at major sellers of art books.

Our Book Review Stolen: The Gallery of Missing Masterpieces reveals the dark underside of the visual arts, and the ongoing battle by the Art Loss Register in London to solve art crimes and return artworks to their rightful owners. The ever growing data base of missing artworks is a frightening reflection on the growth of related crimes. Sadly, most thieves have no appreciation for the artworks they steal, their value being in the price and usefulness in bartering loans.

National Lifestyle Villages announces its travelling Art Awards will venture south to Busselton this year, providing a one-off boost to the South West art community.

One lucky reader will have the opportunity to experience the extravagant sights and sounds of the gala opening night of the Bollywood Masala Film Festival at Luna Cinemas.
